Let me know if you want any more of this. There's more in another section regarding a similar guitar but I will have to find that and put it in another post. The purple prototype allows musicians like Dweezil to transpose their electric technique onto an acoustic guitar without having to make adjustments in playing style, and the sound that they get on my guitar is unique."

I thought I'd try using a very light bracing pattern across the top of an acoustic guitar so the instrument would have a regular acoustic presence even though it's strung with electric guitar strings. Musicians occasionally try to compensate by putting electric strings on an acoustic guitar, but the sound ends up being so soft that it's sometimes hard to hear what's being played. Dweezil has a few of my guitars, and he's really a fast player, but folks like him don't usually use acoustic guitars because the strings are so heavy that it's practically impossible to play in the kind of quick, pyrotechnical style that they like so much. The Purple Prototype was the product of an idea I had after thinking about the playing style of Dweezil Zappa. Sounds awesome.įrom Ferrington Guitars, edited by Kate Giel, Harper Collins and Callaway Editions, 1992: Kramer Ferrington Left Handed White, Telecaster model, ca 1987 TC Electronics preamp/piezo CE 852 22 frets, brass nut. Fit and finish on this guitar is top notch.I need to get that book. I paid a grand for this one, but had to wait 3 months for a Kramer case to be delivered. I can pull up a 4th on this guitar from open A to D. It is neck through constructed and the neck is a thin D and very shreddy. MIT has a Floyd Rose FRT 1000 trem, which still has a steel block, unlike the FR Special on my Fender HM Strat, which has a zinc block. It has a Seymour Duncan JB humbuckers at the bridge and two SC sized Seymour Duncan cool rails in the middle and neck positions.

My other Kramer is the Orange SM-1 (a reissue of the old Stagemaster). There are so many acoustic basses out there that you have to plug in to an amp to even here. The necks are kind of a flatter medium C profile and a little thicker than the neck on my Fender HM Strat. TRADE: This is truly becoming a 'rare' piece. The other I put 10-46 EB Cobalt Strings on it, and a D-Tuna.īoth guitars had perfect fit and finish, with the exception of one sprouting fret that I had to file smooth. One has 9-42 EB Cobalt strings on it, and is set up with the bridge floating. Turns out he didn’t want it, so I cancelled my order on that one, but they had shipped it anyway, and at the price of $529, I chose to just keep it. Kurt allegedly bought the Mustang at Guitar Maniacs. It appears to be the first left-handed guitar that Kurt ever owned, and one that he modified pretty extensively. I had originally bought one for me and one for my son. This Mustang first appeared in late 1988, and it directly replaced a Univox Hi-Flier that Kurt smashed on October 30, 1988, in Olympia. My 1200 dollar Fender HM Strat has Floyd Rose Special bridge on it. I love them, except for the sparkle red paint jobs I could live without. Got a nice Kramer case for each of them for $60 from AMS.

I bought them for $529 each, from ZZounds and AMS.

The regular reissue Kramer Pacers have the FRT 1000 Floyd’s on them. Bothe have Seymour Duncan JB bridge and 59 neck pickups, and when I bought them they were advertised as having Original Floyd Rose bridges on them. I have 2 reissue Pacer Vintage reissue guitars that I got on clearance. I regret that now.m but Kramer has been reissuing some of the models from their heyday. Only offered for a just a few short years by Kramer between 19, these Danny Ferrington designed instruments became the go-to for any acoustic bass performance situation for quite some time.
